Topic/Skill: Grammar: Simple Past Present Perfect Simple Future
My first classroom observation was for 3A Grammar. The teacher, Ms. Sana has a very easy-going and friendly nature and started the class
by asking about everyone’s weekends. The
lesson would be about the simple past and present perfect tense. She used a
deductive approach and started the lesson using the board to show how the two
tenses are used. She used example sentences and underlined words to stress the
form of the tense and used time diagrams to show the situation for using the
tense. She would ask questions of individual students to keep students engaged
while teaching. After explaining the tenses we did a class activity which
everyone seemed to engage with and enjoy.
Everyone had a handout of questions that would prompt the usage of the
present perfect tense. Students would ask other students the questions and
write down the answers. Ms. Sana would go around the room correcting errors
that she could hear and I was asked to do the same. It was a bit of a challenge
to really hear what individual students were saying and you really had to get
into their personal space to do so. The activity was a fun way for students to
put their grammar knowledge to use! After the activity we reviewed an error
that Ms. Sana wrote on the board.
