Danielle CO#1

On August 29, I observed Miss Ciapetta's level 2A grammar class at 9:00am.  I sat in the back of the classroom and observed how she interacted with her students and how her students interacted with each other.  The class appeared comfortable in the setting, and Miss Ciapetta took extra time to further explain problem areas. An activity she does at the start of each class is called a "bell ringer." Here, students take five minutes to correct the grammar mistakes in a few short sentences, and Miss Ciapetta allows about 10 minutes to go over each sentence thoroughly and give students a chance to ask questions. Despite the students being in the same class and roughly on the same playing field, I noticed that some, particularly the Arab students, were able to speak English more fluently and accurately than others. One thing in particular that I liked was when Miss Ciapetta took a few minutes to go over the differences in pronunciation and spelling with the words women, woman, men, and man, as that seemed to stump several of her students when writing sentences.
