Toylene CP#1
9/7/16
FSU Campus
3-4:30

My CP was a delight to talk with.  Surprisingly, her English was a great deal better than I imagined it would be.  She is from Mexico and is currently a level 2 student at CIES.  Initially, she had "closed " her mind to learning English due to previous teasing while a student in Mexico.  However, she has come to realize the benefits of having English as a second language if she is to reach her career goals. From listening to her talk, she is a hardworking and intelligent young woman.  So much so, she is considering pursuing a Ph.D..  She has a supportive support system in her husband. However, she is hesitant about taking on such an expensive endeavor. She isn't confident that her English is good enough to help her navigate the rigors of Ph.D. courses.  I believe she can do it, once she truly decides it is the next milestone in her life she desires to conquer. So, I left her with these words, "positive self-talk."  Considering some of her past experiences, her reservations about her English skills and pending educational decisions, she was encouraged to only say and think positive because she has accomplished a great deal and is capable of doing more, if she wants.
