Feedback provided to tutee:

I informed Jimin that we will be reviewing her grammar diagnostic as well as focusing on speaking the next time we meet.  I also told her that there is no need to be nervous and we're going to have a great time this semester.  I told her that she could call me any time she needed any help.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:

Today was the first time Jimin and I met in person.  Due to Hurricane Hermine, we had to push back our meeting, and I wasn't able to have hard copy materials for this session's complete diagnostic (no WiFi at home).  However, the meeting still went great.  We greeted each other, and we talked about what she wanted to improve on the most (speaking faster and more fluently as well as grammar), and how we can go about doing that.  We then talked about our families, her home country, traveling, why she came to study English, and future goals.  After that, I gave her a short grammar diagnostic which took her about 15 minutes to complete.  We then went to talk about our hobbies; we have a lot in common.  We both like action/adventure movies, we both play tennis, and although she listens to Korean Hip-Hop, Hip-Hop is Hip-Hop.  I was able to introduce her to a language learning app, Duolingo, that will supplement her CIES courses.  I also introduce the 'LextTalk' app which she can practice regular conversation English with people around the world.  She seemed pretty enthusiastic about them, so I hope she gives both apps a try.  The last thing we did was plan our next meeting.

Based on this meeting, Jimin seems pretty enthusiastic about learning English.  She's on top of her studies, and I can tell she tries very hard to improve.  I only hope that I can truly help sustain her enthusiasm and benefit her English language learning.
