The first
question I asked Aeyil after an initial introduction was why she decided to move
to the United States. I turned out that her husband is getting his masters at
FSU so Aeyil, her husband and their four-year-old son moved to Tallahassee. Aeyil
plans on staying in Tallahassee for two years before returning to South Korea
and her job. Aeyil also explained what she did for her job with the Korean government.
According to Aeyil the S. Korean population is slowly decreasing and is estimated
to disappear in 100 years. Her main job was trying to find ways to get women to
have more children. In Korea child care is actually free until a child reaches
a certain age. The government does this to try and encourage women to have more
children. Aeyil believes that one of the reasons women in Korea do not have a
lot of children is because they have to work so much and don’t have the time to
raise multiple children.
