Diego TS#8

17 October

This tutoring session focuses on a new lesson of PJ's math studies. His class is focusing on place values and on the difference between ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, tenths, hundredths, and thousandths places. This is the first time we have covered this together. We started with a pre-activity where I wrote on his whiteboard a large number like 4235.689. Every time I said a place value, he had to quickly point to the number. Once this lesson was drilled into him, he sped through the first round of questions on his assignment where he made minor mistakes in the past. Adding and subtracting decimals came really easy to him so there was no need to help him with that.
He had a quick review again with impartial fractions in his homework assignment but he only messed up on one problem and he quickly corrected his errors.

He has a slight problem that with his handwriting he confuses commas and periods which can lead to tabulation errors so I helped him keep his work organized. Other than that, he is fully grasping the word problem aspects of place values and understands what a one-thousandth and one-hundredth is.
