Megan TS#8
This week David and I met twice as a means of remaining on track for TEFL. I used this second opportunity to reinforce that learning could be fun for him and that we were not going to pay attention to any distractions. He had said in our last meeting that he and his friend were going to watch Terminator. I have never watched the movies, but the subject of Artificial Intelligence is interesting to me. For this reason, I centered my writing lesson on the ethics behind artificial intelligence. First, I demonstrated the format in which he would construct his response to the topic. This included the hook, thesis, 3 supporting points and conclusion. After going over this format, I began a discussion about artificial intelligence to gain his interest, and schema build. I then gave him the prompt : If artificial intelligence was possible, would this benefit or harm humanity? I gave him 15 minutes to write. He ended up stating that having artificial intelligence would harm humanity because the robots would realize that we are using them as slaves, that we destroy nature, and that they are smarter than us. Overall, I was impressed with how well he did in this lesson and I think that I am earning his respect.
