Date/Time: October 10th 6:30-7:30pm
Location: Strozier Library
Topic/Skill: Pronunciation (Short Passages Practice), Dictation, Mixed Verb Tenses
Feedback provided to tutee: Turky needs to practice. He is repeated the same mistakes in lessons and while they are minimal it is very noticeable because they've been addressed multiple times. I expressed to Turky that he should spend a bit more time perfecting his skills outside of class.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Its very hard to keep Turky's focus during a session. Usually we are at the study lounge in his apartment complex; but this time we were at the library where there are very many people doing an assortment of activities. I try my hardest to keep him on track but he is a new adult who is away from his family for the first time and has not focused on learning the language quite yet. Rather than search for the answer in his brain, Turky puts down an answer and then claims that he knew the correct answer once it has been corrected. I know he will come around but I need my patience to stay strong. It is not a good quality of a tutor to become annoyed when the student doesn't participate. It is the student's job to learn not to be a perfect specimen.
