Date/Time: Saturday, September 24th, 12:30pm.
Location: Ruyi's house, Pensacola Street
Ruyi and I met up for lunch at her house since during our last conversation she volunteered to show me the wonders of authentic Chinese hot pot. The meal was pretty amazing; a medley of different types of meat and vegetables with a variety of sauces to add to your bowl and change the flavor as you wished. I really enjoyed cooking and eating at the same time, so that everything was very fresh and tasty. She and her friend made sure I was comfortable with using chopsticks and sharing from the same dish, and as we ate we talked about Chinese meal culture, entertainment news, and about the different foods we were eating. Ruyi even made hand rolled noodles to add to the pot near the end of the meal. We also chatted about how spicy and sweet the foods are in our respective cultures, and how food here is on the more bland yet sweet side. It was interesting to hear that the north and south regions of China are divided on the issue of whether rice or noodles should be the main staple of a meal.
