Date/Time: Saturday, September 24th, 10:30am.
Location: Strozier Library
Topic/Skill: Speaking
More casual conversation practice, with intermittent corrections where needed. We discussed Soongyu's recent trip to visit her husband's family up north, some of her favorite shopping spots in Tallahassee, and the shopping in America versus in South Korea. We also discussed how much of a strain extended periods of speaking can be, especially in front of an audience.
Feedback provided to tutee: My goal was to simply repeat back trouble areas and let Soongyu correct them herself. It wasn't necessary very often, as she often corrected a mistake either right after she spoke, or in the following sentence when she restated information correctly.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Conversation itself can be something that takes preparation and forethought when we know there's a limited range of language to enable discussion. I learned to prepare topics in advance, and to try and steer the chat into areas where we can explore new vocabulary in a natural way.
