Megan CO#1
For my first class observation, I attended Calyn Stringer's reading class. The class had a quiz in the computer class so Ms. Stringer gave me the worksheet they were working on for me to get an understanding on what they were expected to do. Basically all they had to do was to tell a story based off one of the images in the prompt using the past perfect and then to answer one of the prompt questions for 30 seconds, When we actually began the lesson of the day we started off by going over the story they had read from the previous day, "The Canterville Ghost." Although this was the third chapter they had read, it was only a page long. This made it more of a intensive reading in that it was short and they used context to figure out meaning of the vocabulary and overall story. Ms. Stringer pointed out several different sentences within the story for the students to pick a part. For example, "shortly after the family had gone to bed they heard a fearful crash down the hall." She asked the class what "after" meant and continued on by asking when these events happened. She then gave a brief grammar lecture as she explained the past and past participles such as "had gone." She then had them scan through the paper on their own to find 6 examples of past + past participles. To complete this exercise they filled in a chart which included the subject, had/had not, and the past participle.
