Today I helped Samir with some of practical questions he had about English conversation. He needed to visit the doctor because his knee was bothering him. He explained to me how he had knee surgery in Lebanon when he was in high school and he bumped his knee and it was bothering him again. He was a little uncertain about how he would explain this to the doctor, so I tried to help him out by teaching him the necessary words and phrases. He was also worried about insurance, and I had trouble explaining why insurance was so expensive in America. I also took a look at his speaking practice for his job as a TA. He is required to present a lesson as if he was teaching a class. He showed me a recording of his speech and I gave my input, but because it was about chemistry it was really good. I recommended that he change the intonation of voice to add some variety to his speech.
