This is my last tutoring session with PJ! I'm pretty sad about this. This session I'll be observed by his next math tutor named Gavin.
PJ and I are focusing again on some place value questions but this time they're more intertwined with word problems. He is doing pretty well and is really only making minor mistakes like adding instead of subtracting. He fully understands where to put the decimal point during calculations and how to round numbers properly. He had a bit of a problem with the word "difference" and putting it together with subtraction but after asking him more questions about it, he caught on and went on to solve the two problems he messed up on.
Gavin, during an explanation of place value estimation, interjected at one point to help PJ with a word response question that asked PJ to explain his answer. He helped PJ word his answer better so that it would be more clear for his teacher. PJ never has a problem explaining his rationale for his processes vocally, but when it comes to writing it down, he chooses the wrong word at times and makes his point in an indirect manner.
I'm definitely going to miss my sessions with PJ but I'm confident that Gavin will do a good job from here on out.
I'm really thankful for TEFL for this opportunity.
