Lauren TS#13

Thinking back to the presentation I helped my adult tutee correct, I decided that we would work on prepositional phrases for this tutoring session.  To begin the session, I presented him with a basic explanation of what prepositions are and broke them into two categories: one word prepositions, complex prepositions.  Each category had its own list of prepositions.  We reviewed the list for each and discussed any words he was unsure of.  For instance, he mentioned the word “at,” which is one of those prepositions that cannot be taught specifically.  The word “at” has about 18 different situations it can be used.  Other words like between and regarding were easier to explain.  I provided example sentences  following each list and had my tutee underline the preposition in each sentence.  He was better at it than I expected.  After going through the few examples I provided.  I presented him with a worksheet where he had to underline the prepositions used in about 15 sentences and then he had to create five of his own sentences using complex and one word prepositions.
