Tutee: Nestor
I started tutoring the basics today with Nestor. After a brief review of how to introduce ourselves I began to teach him about the verb "be". I created some worksheets to help memorize the word forms. He and I practiced conjugating the different forms of the verb and then I had him practice. First Nestor filled in the blanks, for example the worksheet said "_ am Nestor" and then he had to complete the sentences. I then had him talk about himself and others using different forms of "be". He struggled a bit with the you form partially because I found it a little hard to explain for some reason. I know that he can do it in Swahili and Portuguese, and I know that he knows the concept of "you", but it was hard to explain in English for some reason. He understood the "I" and "we" forms really well, but he kept forgetting the he/she/it conjugation of be. He would often say "he are" instead of "he is". He understood after some correction, but I would like to see how much he remembers next week.
