Today was our last session, so I just wished her good luck on all her future endeavors. If she ever needs any help, I am always available. Just shoot me an e-mail.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
Although this session was short, Jimin already had some questions for me. Most of the questions were about her paper on euthanization (euthanasia). Her paper seemed to be in a second revisions/editing phase. She had questions about why she had to change certain words to other words, and some of them I could not answer. For example, why did she have to change "contain" to "include" if they both mean the same thing in context. Now understood why the professor probably said wrong word choice, but I just said it sounds better (I know, a horrible reason). I believe 'include' is more frequently used with her context. Interestingly when I was providing a better way to say something, I said the word "won't". She repeated that word to make sure she was saying it correctly, and that turned into differentiating the pronunciation of want vs. won't. It was pretty cool to do, and it was very similar to the minimal pair activities we did in class. I'm sure I had a southern feel to the word though, but I think she got it after about 15 repetitions. She also asked me about prepositions, so we just had to fix a few of those in her paper. Also, since I kept using the word paper instead of essay, she learned that essay and paper can be interchangeable. I think she thought I meant an individual blank piece of paper, but I had to explain to her I meant her collective work/essay. I think it was pretty cool she learned that as well. Again, I wished her the best of luck and thanked her for working with me.
