Alyssa TS#16

Date/Time: October 24th 6:30-7:30pm

Location: ONYX Apartments

Topic/Skill: Present Simple vs Present Continuous

Feedback provided to tutee: I reminded Turky to focus and take his time when writing English. When he focuses enough on his English skills he can speak pretty well. However, when he is not forced to speak in full sentences his speech grows even choppier. I want him to remember the full grammar rules instead of just parts of them. I reminded him that he needs to practice more!

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: This session taught me that perseverance is needed when you are a tutor. Especially with Turky, when he is faced with something he doesn't understand he will try to look up the answer on his phone or sit and wait for you to give him a clue. In the last couple of sessions I have been more stern with him and not allowed him to remain silent until I broke. Ive tried to lead his train of thought in the right direction. Eventually, he finds the right answer because he does know the answers. It seems like a lot of work for little result but hopefully he will adapt the thinking patterns and be able to produce correct English quicker.
