Due to scheduling issues, I never had the chance to meet my
original conversational partners.
However, I was paired up with an international teaching assistant at FSU
who is originally from Turkey and met with him for the first time today. Our first meeting was unlike any conversation
I have experienced before. His accent
was very thick and his dialogue was hard to understand many times. The difficulty could have also been because
of the topic of conversation. He is a
very intelligent person nonetheless. He
is completing research on biofilms and trying to discover why or how some
bacteria is stronger than others and why they resist certain antibiotics over
others. I had never met anyone in this
field of study prior to my meeting today so I found it extremely
interesting. I also naturally wanted to
be able to respond and ask questions about what he was researching so I had to
listen and focus very much to make sure not to miss any of what was said.
