I met for the first time with my adult tutee today. This session, we focused on getting to know
one another. My tutee shared with me
that he was from Libya and moved here a few years ago with his wife and three
children. They since have sent their
children back to Libya because the kids were beginning to forget how to speak
Arabic. In my opinion, that takes a lot
of courage. His entire situation is one
that requires a lot of bravery. Moving
to a country you know very little about including the language spoken is not
something everyone can do. However, my tutee had a great attitude about his
situation. He mentioned how he wanted to
focus on his speaking skills as well as his grammar and vocabulary because he
would be taking the GRE soon and after looking at the vocabulary studying
material, he was very unsure he would score well.
