Lauren CP#5

Today we decided to meet back at Starbucks.  Our conversation was somewhat all over the place today. We touched on several topics one being the steps to become a doctor in America.  My conversational partner was unsure about the steps one had to take so I explained the process to him.  We then compared it to the process of becoming a doctor in Turkey.  They weren’t much different.  We talked about his plans to return to Turkey after completing his doctorate here.  He hopes to find a teaching position at the university level once he returns.  After that conversation, we started discussing my plans of going to teach in a foreign country and I mentioned Thailand.  He then shared with me that the King of Thailand had recently passed away and the people were grieving intensely.  He showed me a picture of the king’s son saluting military men in uniform upon arriving at the airport.  We both got a good laugh out of the photo because the king’s son was wearing nothing but ripped blue jeans and a vest that barely covered his giant back tattoo.  I was in awe.  It’s so recent that I’m not sure what will become of Thailand now that their king has passed, but I’m very curious to see.
