Aaron TS #5

9/26/16
Tutee: Mohammad
Strozier Library

Today I gave Mohammad a diagnostic test to see where he was at and get a sense of his English capability. Even though it is my third session with him, it's the start of a new session so I think it is a good time to start afresh. I tested his grammar and reading comprehension. with a few worksheets I printed off. He does well with both and my guess is that he is in group 2 or maybe on the lower end of group 3. To test his writing I had him explain his routine to see if he knew how to use basic verb tenses and sentence structure. He made a few mistakes, but he seemed to be solid. I'd like to challenge him a little more in the weeks to come. For speaking I had him describe to me his home in Kuwait. It was fun just to talk to him and get to know him a little better. He is married and he has 2 kids who are both very little. After he passes the TOEFL he wants to get his degree in mechanical engineering. We spent the whole session on diagnostics so there was not time for much else.
