Jamie TS#10

Date/Time: Saturday, October 1st, 3:00pm.
Location: Strozier Library
Topic/Skill: Speaking

This week Soongyu and I switched up what we'd done last week, starting with timed speaking on Saturday and moving on to conversation and correction on Sunday. We went through another series of TOEFL  timed speaking prompts, with feedback in between sessions both from me (on Soongyu's speaking) and from Soongyu (on how she felt about the prompt). As a sort of cool down, we spent the last five or so minutes just discussing her feelings about the timed speaking activity in general and going over what makes her nervous about it. We talked about how difficult it can be for her to compartmentalize the myriad of thoughts she wants to express about a prompt in Korean, so that she can concentrate on giving brief and relevant reasons and examples in English. Part of the feedback for this week involved focusing on complete but limited responses, rather than going into too much detail and taking up a large portion of the speaking time on the first example's explanation.
