Megan CO#3

For my third and final class observation, I attended Andrew Wilson's speaking class. This beginner class was the same class I ended up teaching for TEFL the following week. I had hoped to talk to Mr. Wilson in person before or after class about any tips he had on teaching the class, he had unfortunately fallen ill and decided it to be best that he stayed at home. As a result, a substitute teacher took over the class as they began their lesson on the past tense. In partners, the students discussed 5 things they did last weekend using regular verbs in the past. For support they were given a list of verbs that demonstrated when to add "ed," change verbs that end in "y" to "ied," and an extra consonant to words ending in consonants (mop->mopped). They then moved on to the past tense and past participles of irregular verbs. After a brief grammar review they were told to complete a story with their partner using verbs in the past and past participle forms. They had 8 minutes to prepare a scenario about what happened after a funny looking man arrives at their front door. After their presentations beautiful mistakes were gone over as a class. However, while they were speaking she would correct them by asking "what?" and repeating their sentence when they used the past/past participles incorrectly, or used a different tense altogether. Regardless, the main focus was on content.
