Topic/Skill: Past Simple vs Past Continuous
Feedback provided to tutee: I made Turky flashcards with the Past Simple forms of the verbs of them. He asked me to help him learn the verb form but other than looking over his notes and me giving him practice quizzes I don't think he utilizes other study methods on his own. I suggested to I'm to utilize the flashcards more often because the action of flipping the card sometimes helps with memory. By the end of the lesson he seemed to have figured out the difference between past simple and past continuous but I don't know if he really acquired the material.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
When Turky gets flustered and doesn't understand he tries to change the subject. It is very hard for him to accept that he doesn't know the answer. If I try to cover material from his class that he hasn't mastered yet he gets anxious and tells me that he will study later. I am trying to explain to him that I am here for the very reason of teaching him English but it is difficult to convey it to him. He brushes it off as not important but I need to find a way to let him know that he should study every opportunity he can even if he feels a little embarrassed.
