Alyssa TS#7

Date/Time: October 4th 7-8pm

Location: Georgette’s home

Topic/Skill: Review, "To be" verb, Practice reading for phonetics

Feedback provided to tutee: While reading I corrected her speech but I didn't nitpick every syllable that was't essential to the flow of the sentence. She had particular trouble with words that start with "h" so I wrote some extra words down and we practiced saying each word until she got the "h" sound correct.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that Georgette gets nervous around her parents. When her parents weren't around she had no problem acting like a goofball but she didn't want to act out the action verbs today. Her siblings, however, had no problem chiming in! Georgette is very determined and does not take my corrections to heart. I try really hard to be nice and direct about corrections rather than come across as stern. As she reads I notice that she has a particular problem with words that have an "i" or "h". She also has problems when the word ends in a "y". I am going to find more material to help her improve. I make to smile as often as I can so she feels comforted.
