Jamie TS#13

Date/Time: Saturday, October 8th, 2:00pm.
Location: Strozier Library
Topic/Skill: Speaking

This was our last timed speaking session, and Soongyu seemed much more confident going into practice. If anything, she was eager to tackle it. We easily made it through about twelve prompts with little rest breaks for feedback. We finally had to find another prompt source, as we'd run through all of the ones on the first website we'd found. Her time had vastly improved, though there were still instances when she went over by about 10 to 30 seconds. I was very glad to observe that she does not use complete notes during prep time, but rather jots down her subject, then two or three quick points to support her stance. She also seems aware of the fact that the third option probably won't be necessary, but that if needed she can use it instead of one of the first two. These are both things I've seen a lot in the TOEFL tip videos I used to research the process: don't take full notes, and give yourself a third option. She also begins writing as soon as she hears keywords in the prompt, another valuable method of saving time during the exercise. Since she was still worried about her time and got a little frustrated with some prompts, I reassured her by once again comparing her past times and commending her on how focused her answers had become.
