I met Samir for the first time by Dirac. I was really nervous to introduce myself because I  did not know how much English he knew. However, I have found that his English is really good when he talks about things that he is interested in. I found out pretty quickly that he likes soccer and we both like the same teams! He is a chemistry PhD student and his ability to speak about chemistry in English is very good. We walked all the way to Pitaria to get lunch and I tried to get to know him. He seemed to be a little shy at first, but he opened a little more as we talked. He requested that we practice English conversation that occurs outside of school or personal interests. Samir told me a story about when he went to the barber and had difficulty communicating the type of haircut he wanted and the barber cut most of his hair off. It's a good place to start and I am excited for next week.
