Ruyi ended up a bit late to this session, and it took a little convincing for her to know that it was okay since I didn't need to meet my tutoring partner until two o'clock. As always, we grabbed some coffee and settled within the Starbucks seating area to discuss our weeks. Ruyi was still lamenting her lack of US driver's license and a car, since it can be so difficult to get around on the weekends when the FSU buses she's used to relying on aren't operating. That got us talking about the differences in obtaining a license between the US and China. I was interested to learn that turning to check behind you while backing up is illegal in China and considered very dangerous. I honestly could not remember whether it's encouraged in the US or not, since it's been about 15 years since I took the driving exam. Ruyi isn't worried about the written section of the license examination, but it concerns her that there might be little differences in traffic laws during the practicum that she gets confused with the laws in China, since she's already a licensed driver and used to the laws there. We ended this week's conversation by talking about the best places to shop in Tallahassee, and commiserating over the price of clothes.
