Jamie TS#15

Date/Time: Wednesday, October 12th, 6:30pm.
Location: Tutee's home, West Pensacola St.
Topic/Skill: Vocabulary of the parts of the body and face, word puzzles, vocabulary of surroundings.

Since my time with Tiba was limited, I kept trying to think of her most immediate vocabulary needs. Things that sprang to mind were aspects that would be beneficial academically, and things relating to her personal health. For this session, we worked on vocabulary of the body. Once again we did a labeling exercise where we first went over a sample image with the various body parts labeled to introduce the vocabulary, then I pointed to things like hands, hair, feet, etc and had Tiba see if she knew them. Finally, she labeled the various parts on a blank sample image. We then did the same thing with the parts of the face. To keep that vocabulary on her mind, we went through a crossword I created using clues describing various body parts which also introduced a few prepositions by necessity (things like the arm being between the hand and the body, head being above the body). Tiba's prediction worksheet directions has become much, much better. When we began, she was very uncertain of how to fill in answers, where to put them, etc. Now she anticipates blank spaces as requiring a missing word or letter, and understands the basic concepts of circling correct words or filling them into boxes by letter in a crossword.
