It was bittersweet to realize that this would be my last time meeting Ruyi outside of the occasional chance encounter at CIES. Since the seating at Starbucks was full of pumpkin-spice infused students, we found a quietish spot on the first floor to chat about various topics as they crossed our minds. Ruyi filled me in on some of the CIES excursions she's gone on. She wasn't a big fan of the trip to St. George Island since she doesn't swim, but plans on heading to Panama City soon to soak up some of the activities there. She had to resort to miming and sound effects to share that she was excited to try out a jetski, which amused us both after I shared the word with her. She also didn't know what to expect on the trip to the Tallahassee Museum, since the name led her to think it would be a traditional indoor museum and not an outdoor living museum experience. By coincidence, we each brought each other a little gift to this meeting. I'd gotten her a little Pusheen the cat plush since we often used Pusheen emojis in our texts when we arranged our meetings, and she gave me some lovely scarves that she'd brought from home as a way of sharing the area's specialty goods.
