The TEFL due date is coming soon and I must say it saddens me as much as it empowers me. Through our tutoring lessons, Dojun have developed a profound teacher and student relationship in which I am more of a coach than a sage. From a teaching perspective, it has been fulfilling developing a learning environment that is as enjoyable as it is effective for the student to feel comfortable enough to practice their English skills productively even online. It is experiences like these that make me want to teach more, and I have decided to continue tutoring as a result, but I digress. This week we went over our lesson in a usual fashion, but I learned some interesting new facts about Dojun himself in his responses whilst using the vocabulary. The question was "what is a treacherous experience that you have had in your life?" He said "I Fall off a cliff!" Though I was surprised, I said that he "fell" or "had fallen" off a cliff. Apparently while serving in the military in the mountains he had slipped off the road and off the cliff. However, the cliff wasn't that high and he only twisted his ankle. This was but one example of how through his own story telling he was able to make a correction and use it with the intrinsic motivation of communicating his experience. I live for these interactions in which both I and the student learn something new that we grow from.
