For this session, I read The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polaco.  Before the reading, I explained to the students that the story was about a family they shared some commonality with. The story is about the author and she is telling her family's history upon coming to America.  Some vocabulary words that needed explaining were huppa and babushka.  They were able to ask questions and answer fill in the blank questions about the story as it progressed.  After the reading, we played a matching game with quilt patterns and numbers on the cards. It was a fun and competitive session.
