Ben TS #2
On
September 7 I met with Shukuru for his second tutoring session. I want to teach
the alphabet to Shukuru because of how much of a foundational skill it is for
the English language. I went out and bought a kid’s alphabet workbook to use as
a tool for teaching the alphabet. I picked out a few pages to look at which
focused on individual letters. We looked at a, b, c, and d. I would say the
letter and have him repeat it to me. I have two early education teachers in my
small group and they gave me good advice for my next tutoring session. I will
focus on the letters of his name and practice the sounds of the letters in his
name. Only when he has name down will I move on to other letters, starting with
just the most commonly used letters such as ‘s’ and ‘t’. By doing this I can
slow things down to a pace that is good for him.
