Moving to a different part of the Leon County library had a
tremendous effect on David’s level of focus and productivity. Without his
brother there to joke with and distract him, David listened and followed
directions. His only issue was with writing down the answers. His mother had
given me an English workbook that he and his brother had been working on. The
problem is that although Matthew has completed the majority of his workbook,
David has found ways to get out of working on his own. For this reason, we have
a lot of material to cover. Nevertheless, David always seems to do well in the
grammar activities. For this session we focused primarily on direct and
indirect objects. Before beginning each activity we began by understanding what
indirect and direct objects were and how they functioned within a sentence.
Then we looked at examples of each, and David explained aloud which word was an
indirect or direct object and why. From there we did activities in which we
plugged in our own objects based on what was needed and later constructed our
own sentences. Near the end of the lesson we began looking at the past tense
and past participles of irregular verbs. He seemed to struggle with a good
majority of them so we will be taking a break from the workbook itself to learn
and practice in the next lesson before returning to the book for further
evaluation.
