Serena TS#6

Date/Time: September 14, 8:00-9:00pm

Location: PJ’s desk

Topic/Skill: Science word problems & project/reading comprehension and applied listening skills

Feedback provided to tutee: I helped PJ with two of his science worksheets that he needed to correct from school. I came prepared with definitions to help explain the concepts to him on the level that he is expected to know. I gave him a lot more positive feedback each time he gave a correct answer just to ensure that he felt rewarded and motivated to continue working.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: This session was a lot more fun and relaxing than previous sessions. I feel this because I am catching on to PJ’s preferred way of learning and feel that I can read him better. Before when I would help him, he would get frustrated but then I would continue to try and approach the same problem in alternative ways. I learned that he has a set amount of motivation and patience and that he is open to learn until he runs out of both. The magnetic crane project that we ended the session with was a perfect way to transition into something more fun and hands on to reset his motivation.
