Danielle CO#2

On 9/8, I observed Miss Stringer's level 3 reading class. At the beginning of class, she wrote the agenda for the day up on the board so students can know what to expect.  They have been working on an article about pursuing degrees and why some people choose to start their own businesses instead of going straight off to college. The students worked in small groups for most of the class, but a lot of them seemed to do most of their work on their own and discussed with their partners only what they were confused on. The first assignment was to take vocabulary from the article (which consisted of more advanced and less-common words and phrases like trajectory, disconcerting, and tunnel vision) and match each word to the proper definition. Miss Stringer then went over the assignment, and proceeded to play a game which involved using fly swatters to hit the word on the board that correctly matched the definition she read out loud. They also discussed study questions in small groups, and at the end of class, Miss Stringer wrote two complex sentences on the board from the article and showed students how to simplify it to make it more comprehensible.
