Danielle TS#4

On Friday, September 9, I met with Astin and his mother again at their home for Astin's next tutoring session.  Last time, I noticed he was struggling a little bit with plural vs. singular and so I brought over a couple of worksheets for him to practice with.  He did a very good job and seemed to understand the different endings for plural words better.  He told me that he loves Space and wanted to read me his Space book.  We read through it together and I guided him into sounding out words he was unfamiliar with.  Afterwards, we focused on some vowel exercizes.  I had him do a couple of worksheets focusing on the short i and short u sounds.  He did very good with the spelling and picking out what vowel was in the word as he read it out loud, but I'm not sure he grasped the concept of short vs. long vowel sounds, so this will be an area of focus for our next tutoring session. He also seemed a bit confused with spelling in regards to the fact that sometimes an i and e can make the same sound, so we will also focus on this next time, as well.
