On 9/14, I met
with Astin for the third time. This time, we focused a lot on spelling
and also did some reading. I can see improvement from when I first
started tutoring him, which I believe is also due to the fact he is attending
an American school and has learned a lot there, as well. For example, he is
doing a lot better with pronunciation of the s at the end of plural words and pronunciation
in general. I have been teaching him how to break down big words he comes
across into syllables, so that way he can sound it out easier. Now, he
just knows when he needs to break a word down and without me prompting him.
Today, I focused a bit more on spelling with him since I can tell he gets mixed
up with certain vowels sounding a certain way. We used words from an activity
he did in class today, which I believe made it easier for him because the words
were fresh in his mind. He is getting better with sounding out words in order
to spell them out. We are meeting again next week.
