I met with my
second conversation partner for the first time today, Monday the 19th. His name
is John and he is from Colombia. He is taking English classes through TCC which
are hosted at the public library. He graduated with a degree in metallurgy engineering
and is now working on an MBA through a university in Spain. This is his second
time living in the U.S, previously he had lived in New York for four months taking
English classes. He also did a year abroad in Germany where he started to learn
English since that was the language used by international students. I asked him
many questions about Latin America since he has so much experience with
traveling through it. He has worked in Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Venezuela,
Colombia and Brazil adjusting his Spanish mannerisms to accommodate for the
host country. He was very interested in my time in Japan, he asked if there were
any cultural norms over there that seemed alien to me. At first it was hard for
me to come up with good examples but eventually I began to remember many
different little things. It was nice to talk about since it let me relive my experience
in a small way.
