I met with a new conversation partner today, Deniz. This is actually Serena's old conversation partner, who is very excited about speaking english well, and apparently wants to meet more often than she has time for. I did not feel that way, as it seems he just wants to meet once a week with me, but it may be because he has several conversation partners now from our class. Our meeting was interesting. I kept trying to ask him questions so that he would be able to practice his speaking, but he really avoided it as much as possible. He instead would ask me the types of questions that require extensive explanation, so that he could just listen to me talk. I'm not sure if he feels uncomfortable talking, or just wants to practice listening skills more. We talked about all kinds of things. We are both involved in research work at FSU so that was a good topic. Also what we are majoring in (he is in grad school, so what he is getting a PhD in), and what our work is like. We talked about what we hope to do with our education and life plans. I hope it was helpful for him. I really feel he could have benefitted more if he has talked more.
