Date/Time: September 7
Topic/Skill: Outlining Composition Essay with 3 Subtopics
Class: Writing 2

In my second classroom observation I observed a writing class for level 2. The task for the day was coming up with an outline for a composition essay. Students worked individually on their own outlines. The professor started the class by asking if anyone’s power was still out from the hurricane. He then explained the task of the day and let students know that their job was to finish their outlines by the end of class. While students were working on their outlines he passed out graded essays from a previous assignment. I could see that on each essay he had written a short paragraph response in the margins for each paper. I got the sense that in the short paragraph he responded to message of the paper in order to create positive backwash that writing is communicative. Along with the message he responded to the structure of the writing, giving feedback on correctly meeting the requirements of how the writing was supposed to be presented.

After he finished giving papers back he went from student to student and would assist them in coming up with their outlines. I was impressed by the level of focus he gave to each student. He was able to quickly formulate and give specific and targeted  advice, which seemed very helpful for the student to work through formulating their outlines.
