My second class
observation was level three listening class. The professor began the class with
questions about the weekend making sure to use somewhat elevated vocabulary.
From this she went into the vocab quiz where the students would listen to her
say particular words which they needed to define and use correctly in a sentence.
During this time, she prepared the next activity on the board which the
students did after the quiz. The day’s theme was words stress and how it is
used in everyday language. She used the Inductive method of teaching to
approach this lesson. Next they were instructed to watch a clip of Mulan and
write down all the phrases they could. This proved slightly difficult for the
students since half of the lines were spoken by Mushu who was voiced by Eddy
Murphy who did not use conventional English. Once they listened to the clip
once they did it again but with a transcript where they marked which words were
stressed.
