This was my first meeting with Eman as a tutee and we met at
the Starbucks across from the CIES by her suggestion. I didn’t really like this
environment because it was loud and sometimes made it hard for me to hear what
she was saying. I believe a more quiet and private environment is appropriate
for tutoring. I talked to her about what she was doing in class and tried to
understand what I could do to help her improve her skills. She had an essay she
had been working on for class and asked me for my feedback on it. I found it
difficult to decide what I should tell her to correct and what to leave because
it is above the level of English she is proficient in. I realized I need to
better understand what I’m looking for so I figured out what she was working
on. Next time we meet I will have some material prepared to help her with the
simple past, past continuous, and articles. Although, I do like tutoring Eman
she is very kind and is easy to talk to since she’s older and has a good
receptive set.
