On Friday the 9th I met
with Shu after his class in the CIES building. We went to lunch to have our
session while we ate. He wants to focus on improving his listening and speaking
skills so I made sure to steer the conversation towards more academic topics.
We spoke about the Fukushima triple disaster and his opinions on the Japanese
prime minister Abe. We also discussed the 2020 Olympics in relation to the
previous topics. As extra practice I advised him to go onto the NPR website and
listen to their podcasts. The journalists make sure to present academic topics
in a manner which is easy to understand. They also speak smoothly and properly
with more diverse vocabulary than most media sites. We scheduled the next
meeting for Monday so that I can help him with his presentations he is supposed
to give in his speaking and reading classes.
