Danielle CP#2

On 9/14, I met with my conversation partner, Vicky, again. We met at Starbucks for coffee, and she brought two of her friends with her. They are also from China. We had a great time and talked a lot about the differences between American culture and Chinese culture and spent a lot of time talking about gender and the role of women in both societies. When I mentioned my parents were divorced, they were all very intrigued by the fact and started asking a lot of questions since divorce isn't nearly as common in China as it is here in America. This led to questions about my mom and if she had a job (since again, women play a much more traditional role in China and have more independence here).  I told them that she works at a hospital as a nurse, and they all seemed pleasantly surprised. I also learned about the history of Tibet and how it became a part of China and the political backstory behind it. We're meeting again next Wednesday.
