Serena CP #2

Date/Time: September 7th 3:00-4:00pm

Location: FSU campus

Topic discussed: American fashion, difference in Universities between Korea and America, FSU

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: Jumin has only been in America for a couple months and since she's been taking classes at CIES she hasn't had the chance to explore the campus at all. Therefore I gave her my own personal tour of the campus. We walked from Strozier to the Union to get a smoothie. While we were in line I explained the different the terms for grade levels: Freshman, Sophomore, etc. I explained how here at FSU Freshman generally live in dorms and I explained the meal plans and the basics of the on-campus lifestyle. Then we walked through the Market Wednesday tents. I taught her about the school colors and showed her the popular fan gear. I also showed her the different fashion pieces and explained how Americans generally dress a lot less conservatively than in Korea. Then we walked to HCB where I showed her what the big lecture halls look like. We walked into an empty classroom and we even peeked into a class in session. Finally I showed her the Chick-Fil-A on campus and we talked about the American diet. By then she had to head back to CIES where her dad was going to pick her up. I enjoyed showing her and teaching her about American and college culture outside of what the textbook would teach her.
